Pre-University courses after SPM

Simply said, pre-university is the one to two years stage that precedes entering a university. Pre-university programs are available for secondary school graduates who want to jumpstart their further education careers.

A-Level

 

  • One of the most well-known pre-university programs offered in the UK.

  • Admission into most universities is a possibility.

  • Provided in colleges by the Edexcel/Cambridge International Examinations Board.

Tuition Fees: RM 16,000 - RM 35,000

Duration: 1.5 - 2 years

Subjects Taken: 3 - 4 subjects

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme

 

  • Originally from Geneva, Switzerland.

  • Can be pretty difficult.

  • The system is set up to develop students who are knowledgeable and skilled in every field of the arts and sciences.

  • Students must complete coursework and examinations in three areas: creativity, action and service activities (CAS), theory of knowledge (TOK), and extended essays. This is a distinctive characteristic of the IB program.

Tuition Fees: RM 40,000 - RM 60,000

Duration: 2 years

Matriculation

 

  • Individuals who intend to enroll in nearby state universities.

  • Government subsidies cover the cost of tuition.

  • The following four disciplines are also mandatory for all students: information technology, dynamic skills, Islamic/moral education, and English language.

Tuition Fees: RM 550 below (registration fees)

Duration: 1 - 2 years

STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia)

 

  • Regarded as one of the toughest exams in the world and of the highest caliber.

  • Very cost-effective; for a reasonable amount, students can enroll in institutions all around the world with their STPM.

  • If they want to raise their average grades, students have the option of retaking the papers.

Tuition Fees: RM1,000 below (registration and examination fees)

Duration: 1.5 years, split into three semesters

Asasi

 

  • Direct entry into the university for people who have already selected their desired degree.

  • solely based on exams.

  • both open and private program is available: A closed program limits students to the university they can enroll in, but an open program permits students to access other public universities.

Tuition Fees: *funded by government, fees may vary depending on the institution selected

Duration: 1 - 1.5 years

Subjects Taken: 1 (as per intended degree)

Recognition: Local

American Degree Programme (ADP/ADTP)

 

  • After completing this course, students forego pre-university and graduate with a degree in their chosen area.

  • Students might choose to complete one or two years of their ADP in Malaysia and the remaining years in a university in the United States or Canada.

Tuition Fees: RM 60,000 (2 years in Malaysia)

Duration: 4 years

Subjects Taken: 7

Australian Matriculation/South Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT/SACEi)

 

  • Recommendations for students who want to study in Australia.

  • Several nations throughout the world typically recognize this program.

  • SACEi gives students 70% school-based assessments and 30% tests, while AUSMAT offers students 50% exams and 50% school-based assessments.

Tuition Fees: RM 18,000 - RM 40,000

Duration: 1 year

Canadian Pre-University (CPU)

 

  • The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is another name for it.

  • enables students to pursue their degrees at institutions worldwide rather than simply in Canada.

  • Additionally, CPU students must complete a set number of hours of community service that includes projects and presentations as well as real-world experience.

Tuition Fees: RM 30,000

Duration: 1 year

Recognition: Worldwide

Foundation

 

  • Preferred by students who are certain of the career path they want to take.

  • Specific and adapted to the future degree curricula of the pupils

  • The quickest route to enroll in a university is to take a foundation course.

Tuition Fees: RM 10,000 - RM 26,000

Duration: 1 year

Subjects Taken: 1 (stream)

Recognition: Limited universities locally & abroad
